At ELTE, the MARIHE programme will be managed by the Institute of Education within the Faculty of Education and Psychology, in a strong collaboration between its two research groups: the Research Group on Higher Education and Innovation and the Research Group for Education, Law, and Pedagogy. The Faculty of Education and Psychology is involved in various national and international projects and runs two bachelor’s and six master’s programmes (including the MARIHE MSc as a joint master’s programme with UWK), in English. The faculty also has two doctoral schools with several English language programmes – among them the Teacher Education and Higher Education Studies Doctoral Programme which has been developed from the EDITE programme established within a Horizon2020, This programme is strongly connected to higher education research.

The Higher Education and Innovation Research Group (HEIR) focuses on higher education research with special focus on learning and teaching, especially teacher professional development, educational development & innovation, co-creation processes and organisational management. The research group is committed to the integration of research, innovation and teaching activities and has long-standing collaborations with different study fields in higher education.

One of the primary research focuses of the Research Group for Education, Law, and Pedagogy is the protection of fundamental rights, particularly institutional autonomy and academic freedom in higher education. The head of the research group participated in several international projects on academic freedom and is a member of the Council of Europe’s working group on academic freedom.

Students are invited to engage with the work of the two research groups and to explore research topics that align with their interests and the groups’ areas of focus. In the specialization innovative learning and teaching methods are applied based on student-centeredness and supporting problem- and project-based learning.
